Place The Template On The Fabric

Now place the template on the fabric in the exact position that you
want the embroidery design to sew out.  Use the little markings
on the hoop to help you determine placement.  When I stitch
out the parasols for the first block of the Latte Quilt, I
know that the design needs to lie on the diagonal line that
we made when we folded and marked the block.  I also know
that I want the tips of the parasols to all be equal distance from
the center point.  So, when I was marking my little squares
for the machine stitching, I also marked a little "X" where I wanted
the tips of the parasols to be.  Then I was able to place the
tip of the parasol template on the little "X" making sure that the edges of
the hoop also lined up square with the markings for the machine stitching.

I just use a couple of pins to secure the template to the fabric.

The little white "x" shows the placement that I had marked for the tip
of the parasol.  If you notice, I folded back the template at the tip of the parasol
so that I could place it exactly on the mark that I made especially for this.
The little red arrows show that the template indicates the center
of the design for both  edges so that you can line them up right.
There is also a little  red "X" that shows the diagonal fold line that I made
when I first started with the block.

I am sure that you are also going to notice that the template is a little
bit crooked.  I would definately straighten this up before I did the sew out!
But as a reference, this will work.  :-)

Now, I just hoop a medium tear-away stabilzer and
give it a little spritz of 505.  Don't look at my "filthy hoop".
But I do find that leaving them a little bit tacky helps to
give things a better hold.

Now, place the hoop in the machine and then place the fabric
with the attached

template in the machine.

Look how my fabric is position so that the center position of the needles is
going to start sewing exactly at the center mark of the template.

Now you can un-pin the template and set it aside for the next time.
After removing the template, make sure that the fabric underneath is
nice and smooth.  I usually take my fingers and gently smooth the
fabric from the center point out, making sure that the fabric is
adhered to the sticky stuff all the way around.
